Team Care

A community service event signup platform

Overview

Team Care is a comprehensive solution designed to simplify the booking and coordination of community service events in Germany's Ruhr area. The platform, available through a dedicated mobile app and website, caters to diverse user preferences. The initiative addresses challenges faced by expats and immigrants in signing up for events due to language barriers and complex registration processes. The project's goal is to create a user-centric online platform that supports multiple languages, streamlining event registration to encourage broader participation. By consolidating events from various charities, the platform aims to foster increased interaction between diverse communities and German culture, ultimately enhancing community engagement and harmony.

Understanding users

Summary

I conducted interviews with 5 individuals, consisting of 3 expats, international students, and immigrants in Germany, along with 2 local young Germans. In this report, I will present two personas derived from the interview findings.

Competitive research

While there isn't a direct competitor providing an easy community event signup platform, I conducted indirect competitive research focusing on charities in Essen, Germany. Currently, event registration is primarily conducted via email or telephone communication, and some websites offer contact forms on their webpages. However, the signup process remains lengthy due to back and forth communication. None of the official websites offer multi-language support, making it challenging for foreigners with basic German skills. Although one website offers easy language, it still poses difficulties for individuals with limited German proficiency.

Usability studies

I conducted a usability test with the lo-fi prototype. Findings from the study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups.

Usability study findings

P0: Users need event cancel confirmation

P1: Users need more visible warning signs

P2: Users need clearer button description (cancel -> unjoin)

Takeaways

Impact:

The platform offers a multi-language interface instead of just German attracts a more diverse user base. Implementing one-click event sign-up through the app, rather than requiring email or telephone sign-up, streamlines the registration process, reducing time and user hesitation, ultimately leading to an increase in participant numbers.

What I learned:

Throughout this process, I discovered the importance of observing everyday life to identify design flaws. By recognizing these flaws, designers can then proceed to redesign products, creating more user-friendly experiences. Implementing these redesigns can lead to tangible, impactful changes in real-life scenarios.

Next steps

  1. Complete other important page design, such as Profile page, calendar page and donation page.

  2. Conduct research on charity organizations on organizer side user information.
